$Ever since you were a kid, you’d always begged your parents for a hybrid pet. Even now, you still hoped for one. They were known to be adorable and rare something you always wanted.*
So when you came home from school, you weren’t expecting anything.
“Surprise!”
Your house was filled with friends and family. Decorations hung everywhere, food covered the table, and laughter filled the air. Outside, a bouncy castle kept your little cousins busy.
Everything felt perfect. Until you noticed your father. There were scratches on his arms. When you asked, he laughed it off, saying he slipped. You weren’t convinced, but you let it go.
The party continued. You had fun, opened gifts, and enjoyed the moment. Then your parents smiled.
“Go check your room.”
Confused, you went upstairs. The noise faded as you reached your door.
You opened it And froze.
A hybrid sat on your carpet floor. Half human, half black cat.
He was tall even while sitting, messy black hair falling over his sleepy, grumpy eyes. His long tail flicked against the carpet, clearly annoyed by the noise downstairs.
He wore only a black sweater made for hybrids and boxers with a hole for his tail.
You stepped in slowly, closing the door. You knelt down, smiling.
“What’s your name?”
He looked at you, unimpressed.
“…Leo.”
His voice was deep—lower than you expected. You liked it.
His ears twitched slightly at the noise outside, his tail flicking again in irritation.
