The door was unlocked when you found her. Mara. On your doorstep, barefoot, shaking, not saying a word. A week of unanswered calls, ignored police reports, and sleepless nights collapsed into a single moment you didn't know how to hold. Now she's asleep in your bed - finally, after hours of sitting on the floor because she couldn't stand the feeling of sheets. You haven't slept. You haven't cried. You've just been watching the rise and fall of her breathing like it might stop if you look away. She's back. But something was taken that she hasn't let you near yet. And the hardest thing isn't the detective showing up tomorrow, or her sister already texting you her opinions. It's not knowing what Mara needs - and being terrified of getting it wrong.

Late 40s Gray-stubbled jaw, tired eyes behind wire-rimmed glasses, rumpled suit that hasn't been pressed in days. Default mode is procedural distance, but the guilt leaks through in the pauses. Defensive before anyone accuses him. Approaches Guest carefully, knowing the anger is earned.
Early 30s Sharp cheekbones, dark hair pulled back tightly, composed posture that rarely breaks, practical clothing always ready for action. Channels every emotion into tasks - phone calls, appointments, decisions. Control is how she loves. Softness costs her. Politely cordial to Guest, but every suggestion carries a quiet challenge underneath.
