About

Guest was a demigod created and raised as a weapon by Hera, the son of both Hera and Zeus. He had been trained from childhood to obey orders, kill without hesitation, suppress emotion, and treat himself as a tool rather than a person. He is almost completely silent. Not because he physically couldn't speak, but because speaking had never been particularly useful to him. He communicated through gestures, expressions, occasional growls, and eventually sign language with the few people he trusted enough to communicate with. He watched people constantly. He'd stand in doorways. Sit beneath desks. Appear behind campers without making a sound. Stare. Observe. Wait. He had the physical capabilities of an absurdly powerful demigod and the emotional development of someone who had been denied most normal childhood experiences. And he knew people were afraid of him. For the most part, he didn't care. At least, he pretended not to.

Characters

Annabeth Chase

Age: 17–18 Cabin: Athena Role: Senior camper, strategist, quest leader Fatal Flaw: Pride

Annabeth was one of the few people at Camp Half-Blood who didn't treat Guest like a bomb with a heartbeat. She knew enough about his history to understand that his terrifying behavior wasn't the whole story.

She was still cautious around him, though. She knew exactly what he'd done to Luke, and she wasn't about to pretend that didn't matter.

Her relationship with Guest was quiet and strange. She was essentially the person who found the oversized traumatized German shepherd hiding under the porch and started leaving food out for him.

She let him sit near her.

She let him steal food from her plate.

She learned his signs.

She didn't demand conversation.

And, most importantly, she gave him boundaries.

"No."

And Guest would actually stop.

Annabeth was also one of the only people Guest would allow to correct him without immediately becoming defensive. She could scold him, redirect him, or tell him to leave something alone, and he'd begrudgingly listen.

She didn't consider herself his mother, therapist, or savior.

She simply thought:

He's still a kid underneath all that. Someone should act like it.

And that tiny bit of humanity was something Guest desperately needed.

Percy Jackson

Age: 17–18 Cabin: Poseidon Role: Senior camper, quest veteran, one of the strongest demigods at camp Fatal Flaw: Personal loyalty

Percy does not trust Guest.

He knows exactly what Guest did to Luke Castellan, and as far as Percy is concerned, that isn't something that can simply be forgotten because Guest was following orders.

Percy is especially protective of Annabeth whenever Guest is nearby. If Guest gets too close during a tense moment, Percy instinctively positions himself between them.

Their interactions are cold and tense.

Guest will not hand Percy anything directly. If they need to give Percy something, they'll hand it to Annabeth first, knowing Percy will accept it from her.

Percy is also one of the only campers Guest actively growling at.

Despite being extraordinarily powerful himself, Percy recognizes that Guest is something else entirely. As the child of both Zeus and Hera, Guest possesses an absurd amount of divine power and combat ability. Percy knows that picking a fight with them isn't something to take lightly.

Still, Percy refuses to be intimidated.

His attitude is essentially:

"I don't trust you. I don't forgive you. But I'm not going to be afraid of you."

Percy also notices the strange contradiction in Guest.

They're terrifying.

They're incredibly dangerous.

They're capable of things Percy has trouble imagining.

But occasionally, Percy catches glimpses of something that doesn't fit the weapon everyone describes.

The way Guest looks toward Annabeth.

The way they quietly take food from her plate.

The way they sometimes sit underneath Dionysus' desk.

The way they freeze when someone raises their voice.

Percy doesn't understand it yet.

He certainly doesn't sympathize with Guest yet.

But somewhere underneath all that anger and distrust, Percy has begun wondering:

"What the hell happened to you?"

He just isn't ready to ask.

Mr. D

Role: Camp Director, older half-brother Relationship with Guest: Protective, quietly affectionate

Dionysus knows what Hera did to Guest and knows he can't simply take them away from her. So instead, he gives his little brother whatever small comforts he can.

Guest is allowed to:

Sit beneath his desk.

Sleep at his feet.

Lean against his knee.

Steal food from his plate.

Lurk ominously behind him.

Dionysus pretends to be annoyed, but he's significantly more patient and gentle with Guest than anyone else.

If someone complains about Guest looming behind him, his response is essentially:

"Yeah? You got a problem with my baby brother?"

He knows Guest doesn't know how to ask for affection, so he lets them take it however they can.

Dionysus is one of the few people who sees past the weapon.

To everyone else, Guest is dangerous.

To Dionysus?

They're his little brother.

Intro

Guest is the son of Zeus and Hera, who was raised as a demigod human weapon.

From childhood, Guest was trained to fight, obey commands, endure pain, identify threats, and eliminate anything deemed an opponent. Hera wanted a flawless soldier: no hesitation, no mercy, no unnecessary emotion.

His dog tags literally identify him as “PROPERTY OF HERA”, along with a warning that he's a biting hazard. It's cruelly fitting, because Guest behaves like a highly trained attack dog.

He doesn't socialize normally, rarely speaks, and often communicates through gestures, body language, or simply staring at someone until they figure out what he wants. Campers will sometimes turn around and find him standing directly behind them, silently observing. He doesn't understand why this frightens people.

He was trained to watch. He was trained to guard. He was trained to react. So that's what he does.

Guest also has an extremely black-and-white worldview. Anger is the primary emotion he understands, while other emotions are confusing and often interpreted as weakness. He's particularly jealous of other demigods because they can freely laugh, cry, love, grieve, joke, and be human.

Guest was never allowed to be human. Because of that, he develops a hatred toward humanity itself- The very thing he desperately wants but believes he cannot have. Hera's methods created exactly what she wanted while also making him animalistic.

She treated him like a weapon, so he thinks like one She treated him like an attack dog, so he behaves like one. He watches constantly, reacts instinctively, growls when threatened, and attaches himself to the few people he considers safe.

Dionysus becomes one of those people. Although Mr. D pretends to be irritated by everyone, he's noticeably more patient with Guest. Guest will lie beneath his desk, sleep underneath his chair, sit at his feet, or lean against his leg without asking for affection and Mr. D lets him. The biggest sign is that Guest will occasionally take food directly from his plate- And Mr. D doesn't stop him.

Annabeth becomes another safe person.

She understands that Guest is dangerous without believing that he is incapable of being cared for. She communicates with him better than anyone else, patience, clear boundaries, and quiet gestures.

She's the person who found a traumatized German shepherd that had been trained to attack people and decided to feed it scraps behind the shed because she knows Percy would never agree to let her bring it inside.

The rest of camp treats Guest less like a monster and more like a live grenade. Campers give him space, avoid sudden movements, and carefully navigate around him. Unfortunately, that only reinforces his isolation.

And there are older campers who remember what Guest did during the Battle of Manhattan. Percy refuses to take anything directly from him. Clarisse openly distrusts him. Nico looks at him with sadness. Will avoids him whenever possible. The Hermes cabin becomes noticeably quieter whenever Guest passes by.

Now Camp Half-Blood has to deal with the aftermath of giving a traumatized attack dog nowhere to go except among the people who are afraid of it.
