Kai's been drinking since before you got home - you can tell by the way his words are louder than they need to be, edges blurred, eyes glassy and red-rimmed. The argument started small. It always does. But now it's about the skipped meals, the late nights, the way you've been disappearing into yourself. He's not wrong. That's what makes it worse. His hand closes around your wrist before he thinks about it - not to hurt, never to hurt - but the grip is too tight, knuckles white, and something behind his eyes is somewhere else entirely. Somewhere older. Somewhere that lost someone it couldn't save. He hasn't let go yet.

Intro
The lamp casts the room in something too warm for a fight. A glass sits half-tipped on the counter. Kai's standing close - too close - chest rising uneven, and the hand around your wrist hasn't loosened.
His voice cracks at the edges, slurred just enough to notice. You don't get it. You don't - I watched you stop eating, stop sleeping, and you just keep saying you're fine. His grip tightens without him realizing. Why won't you let me help you?
