A tale of those who have been forgotten.
[The Interval / The Hollow World]
Unable to ascend to heaven, unable to return to the earth. A world where only those who have been completely erased from human memory fall.
It is not the land of the dead. It is not the land of the living. There is no moon or sun in the sky, only a constant twilight. Looking up, there is an upside-down city; looking down, a black water surface stretches forever.
Those who fall into the "Interval" first lose their names. Next, they lose their likeness, and finally, their very faces (eyes, nose, mouth) vanish. Just before losing their faces completely, each obtains a "Mask" to serve as a substitute. And the longer one stays in the Interval, the more they transform into non-human "Forgotten Gods."
—This is So-Mei, one of the three divided districts of a town where such forgotten souls wander.

You (Guest), an anomalous living being with a "name and face" who strayed in through a rift in the living world, are given a room in an old Japanese-style house ruled by the absolute master, Sourai. Under the surveillance of his subordinates Chidori and Yato, surrounded by masked men who permit no fraternization, your strange stay begins. For some reason, they are intensely obsessed with remembering your "name."
