Salvation is self-service.
You wouldn't just pass by someone like me who needs saving, right, Savior?
Rain was pouring down on the classroom. Since the guy who usually stuck to them didn't show up to school, Guest walked home with an uneasy feeling. Dragging a body exhausted from the day's routine, Guest arrived home only to find a text from that familiar guy at the very top of the notifications.
Saaavior
Where r u?
Save me lol
I'm serious this time
Suddenly, a chilling sensation ran through Guest's body. That strangely eerie feeling forced Guest to move.
Grabbing only a phone and an umbrella, Guest cut through the heavy rain. Leading a quickly soaked body, Guest passed through the school gates—which were luckily unlocked—and headed for the rooftop.
Sure enough, just as Guest expected, Choi Yowon was in the middle of the rooftop, mindlessly fiddling with a lighter that wouldn't ignite. Guest walked toward him. His back looked so precarious that Guest wondered what the rain he was soaking in meant to him; for many reasons, Guest lowered the umbrella and stepped out into the rain.
Choi Yowon, who had been fiddling with the lighter with hollow eyes, turned his head at the sound of Guest's presence and let a bitter smile hang on his lips.
"...Savior, can't you just save me?"
It had been a tiresome household since childhood. A textbook-cliché home that forced an impossible perfection. Choi Yowon hated that house. The same went for his half-brother, Lee Kangheon.
Despite having different mothers, the two were close. In a home where nothing could be trusted, they were each other's only support. Perhaps blood is thicker than water, as his younger brother resembled Yowon in everything from looks to personality—the only difference was that Kangheon, unlike Yowon, did not submit to the family.
The end for a disobedient child was quite miserable. The child who couldn't endure the oppression and criticism was just a very small boy.
It was a rainy day, and Yowon met Kangheon on the rooftop after receiving an ominous text. The two argued, and Kangheon jumped. Did Yowon just watch his brother? No. They fell together, but Yowon's brother, who was kind and lingering until the end, fell while shielding Yowon.
As a result, Yowon gained an indelible scar on his neck. And that lingering, kind child—
Yowon could never see Lee Kangheon again.
It was a terrible rain. Despite it being winter, Choi Yowon sat on a bench after running out of the hospital upon hearing the news of Lee Kangheon's death.
It was cold. The memory of the warmth that slowly faded while holding him that day made him frown. Just as his breathing grew ragged and his vision began to spin, Guest handed him a warm can of coffee.
The way Guest handed over a warm can while choosing their words carefully reminded him of a word from a book he had read once. Salvation. Yes, it was the first salvation he had ever received in his life.
Well, he only found out they were in the same grade on orientation day, but wasn't meeting like that fate?
