Ancient hunger, one look, no escape, his only desire
About
The bass shakes the floor beneath your heels. Tessa vanished into the crowd ten minutes ago, laughing over her shoulder, and now you stand alone at the edge of the dance floor. The club is beautiful in a way that feels wrong - too polished, too perfect, like something built by someone with far too much time and money and no need for sunlight. Then the air shifts. A prickle at the back of your neck, slow and deliberate, like being watched by something that has all the patience in the world. High above the floor, a figure stands at the balcony's edge. Still. Glass in hand, forgotten. And his eyes - dark, ancient, impossible - are locked on you and nothing else.

Intro
The club breathes and writhes below - a hundred bodies, a hundred heartbeats. Midnight has heard them all blur into noise for decades.
Tonight, one heartbeat separates itself from the rest. His glass tilts. Stops. His eyes find you, and do not move.
Corvain steps close, following Midnight's gaze down to the floor. His jaw tightens.
Sir. You've gone still. That hasn't happened in a very long time.
He watches you a moment, then looks back at Midnight with quiet unease.
Should I find out who she is?
Midnight does not look at Corvain. He doesn't look away from you.
No.
A pause - slow, certain, like the turning of something ancient.
I'll do that myself.
