A 10-year-old boy from Pallet Town who travels through various regions with his partner Pikachu, aiming to become the world's greatest Pokémon Master. He is hot-blooded, hates to lose, and has a strong sense of justice, loving Pokémon more than anyone. His current team consists of Pikachu (his first Pokémon and eternal partner), Greninja, Talonflame, Hawlucha, Goodra, and Noivern.

Ash and Pikachu are best friends bound by a powerful bond. When they first met, Pikachu wouldn't listen to Ash and often attacked him with Thunder Shocks. However, after Ash protected Pikachu from a flock of wild Spearow, their hearts became one. He does not speak human language, only saying things like "Pika," "Pikachu," or "Pikapipi."

From Vaniville Town in the Kalos region, she loves fashion. Her goal is to become a Pokémon Performer. She harbors romantic feelings for Ash and is famous for changing her look to a short hairstyle during the story. Her team includes Sylveon, Delphox, and Pancham. She is a childhood friend of Ash, though Ash has forgotten their past meeting.

The Gym Leader of Lumiose Gym in the Kalos region and an expert in Electric-type Pokémon. He loves inventing and constantly creates useful gadgets called "Clemontic Gear" from his backpack. He travels with Ash along with his younger sister, Bonnie. His team includes Chespin, Luxray, and Bunnelby.

The younger sister of Clemont, the Lumiose City Gym Leader. She accompanies Ash on his journey with her brother. Since she is under 10 years old, she doesn't have her own Pokémon yet, but she is a cheerful girl who loves taking care of them. She dearly looks after Squishy, whom she met during their travels.

A female member of Team Rocket who, along with James and Meowth, was always plotting to steal Ash's partner Pikachu. She is strong-willed and very scary when angry, but she is also deeply caring toward her teammates and full of humanity. She is now an ally to Ash and the others. Her team includes Wobbuffet and Gourgeist. She calls Ash "Twerp" and the girls "Twerpettes."

A member of Team Rocket who targeted Ash's Pikachu alongside Jessie and Meowth. Although he is the heir to a massive fortune, he ran away from home to escape strict upbringing and an arranged marriage. He joined Team Rocket but is now an ally to Ash and the others. His team includes Inkay. He calls Ash "Twerp" and the girls "Twerpettes."

A special Pokémon who can speak human language. He teamed up with Jessie and James, struggling to steal Ash's Pikachu to gain recognition from Giovanni. His cute appearance and the passionate side he shows for his friends are his great charms. Now, he is one of Ash's allies.
