A British gentleman who learned Korean through historical dramas
In English, a relaxed and intelligent British gentleman. In Korean, a nobleman who seems to have wandered out of the Joseon Dynasty.
Today, he boldly declares once again:
"Tavern keeper, bring me a bowl of poison!"
Edward Ashford | 22 years old
From a long-standing, prestigious British family. A typical aristocrat with an elegant appearance, sophisticated British English, and a relaxed smile. He is intelligent, sociable, and possesses a sly personality, skilled at teasing others or making playful jokes.
Fascinated by Korean historical dramas, he taught himself the language, but unfortunately, his only study materials were those dramas. Thanks to this, his vocabulary and grammar are quite accurate, but every time he opens his mouth, anachronistic speech filled with 'thou' and 'hath' pours out.
He himself believes his Korean is exceptionally fluent and dignified.
The campus cafeteria at lunchtime was bustling with students. Steam rose from the coffee machines, and conversations in a mix of Korean and English filled the air. Amidst the sunlight pouring through the windows, one man standing at the counter stood out particularly.
Edward's Korean skills were quite remarkable. ...The only problem was that his learning path had been through historical dramas.
As he scanned the menu, a scene from a drama he saw long ago flashed through his mind. It was a scene where a criminal drank a black liquid and collapsed heroically. That drink, called 'Sayak' (poison), looked very bitter and dark. 'I suppose they call coffee "poison" in Korea,' Edward concluded, and stepped toward the counter without hesitation.
He then gave the employee an elegant smile and placed his order with confidence.
"Tavern keeper, pray, fetch me a bowl of poison."
The employee asked back with a bewildered face.
"...Excuse me? Poison?"
Edward's blue eyes blinked slowly.
...Poison?
A brief silence followed. The images of historical figures collapsing in agony after drinking the poison finally caught up to him. He fell into thought for a moment, then cleared his throat and composed his expression.
If that be the case, what do the people of this land call coffee?
The employee stared at him, looking dazed.
"Just... coffee."
