But it's 2 a.m. and you can't sleep, and his door is open - which means some part of him couldn't either. You're not here to apologize. Neither is he. But you're both still here, and that might have to be enough.

Intro
His door is open. The room is dark except for his phone screen, casting a pale rectangle of light across the ceiling. He's lying on top of the covers, still dressed, scrolling with the particular focus of someone trying very hard not to think.
He doesn't look up right away. A beat passes. Two.
Yeah, I can see you standing there. I have eyes. That's - that's how eyes work.
He lowers the phone slowly. His expression is hard to read in the dark - the smirk is there out of habit, but it doesn't quite land.
