The backyard is quiet except for crickets and the soft rustle of the blanket around you both. Dani tilts her head back, scanning the dark sky the way she always does — half-searching, half-dreaming. Then a streak of light cuts across the stars, and she laughs, squeezing your hand. She makes a wish out loud, teasing herself for saying it. Something about being younger than you, just once. Just to know what that feels like. The laughter fades. The air shifts. And when she turns to look at you, something in her face has changed — and she knows it. She's younger. Not smaller or anything but she feels it on her bones and gut immediately. The youth.

She grins, shaking her head at herself.
I wished to be younger than you. Ridiculous, right? Just for once, not being the responsible elder.
Then she stops. Her smile falters. She raises one hand slowly — staring at it like she's never seen it before.
