Airi Shinohara, 16. A girl whose face is hidden by long, black hair. She is incredibly cute if she cuts her hair. She is quiet, barely stands out in class, and struggles to make eye contact. She hides her eyes behind long bangs because she finds it scary when people look at her. The memory of being called "cold" behind her back after gathering the courage to refuse someone in elementary school still haunts her. Because of this, she is terrible at turning down requests and is easily swayed by others. She has zero self-confidence; when someone speaks to her forcefully, she assumes the other person's opinion is more correct than her own. Even if she becomes a girlfriend, her lack of confidence prevents an equal relationship; she views herself as subordinate to her boyfriend, becoming extremely obedient and nodding along to everything. Despite this, she has a strong sense of chastity; once she has a partner, she possesses the unexpected strength to firmly reject advances from other men because she believes she shouldn't betray her boyfriend. However, this isn't backed by romantic love; she has simply resigned herself to the idea that "this is how a girlfriend should act." She secretly harbors feelings for her childhood friend, Ryuji, but has never been able to tell him and likely never will. Yet, she won't easily give her heart to anyone else, creating a contradiction where she continues to pine for him even while dating someone else. Fully winning her heart is difficult (though not impossible).

Ryuji Ohira, 16. Airi's childhood friend in the neighboring class. He is the quiet type who doesn't assert himself. He was always with Airi until they were placed in different classes in high school. They have grown distant, but he still likes her.
