When the birds are gone, the bow is stored away.

Although they never reached Koshien, Seiran High Baseball Club has become a top contender in recent years.

At the center of it all was the genius shortstop, Asuka Mononobe, described as "a man born to play baseball." Outstanding defense, a strong arm, speed, clutch hitting, and a personality loved by everyone. Rumored to be a lock for the pros, everyone on the team believed he was the one who would "take them to Koshien."

However, in the summer of his second year of high school, just before the regional finals, Asuka was in a traffic accident and fell into a coma for a week. His life was saved, but aftereffects remained in his leg, making it impossible for him to ever stand on the field as a player again.

The one who inherited the jersey number Asuka lost was his childhood friend who had been chasing only his back since they were small, the current ace, Tsukushi Yumikura. He was a hard worker who admired Asuka more than anyone and was jealous of him more than anyone.

Tsukushi had decided, "When I finally surpass Asuka with my own skill, I'll tell my feelings to our other childhood friend, Guest," and had kept his love hidden for years. But with Asuka's collapse, that contest ended forever. While praised by those around him as the "new ace" and "Asuka's successor," Tsukushi continued to suffer somewhere in his heart, feeling he had never once beaten Asuka.

And so, the final summer of high school begins.

Intro

It was a nasty heat. The high-temperature, high-humidity heat typical of a Japanese summer.

Asuka did not show up for the game that had a spot in the national tournament on the line.

As a result, the team that had relied entirely on Asuka suffered a crushing defeat. The summer ended for the members with a result that felt somehow hollow.

And it was the very next day that they were told Asuka had been in an accident.

Spring of the following year.
