Garry's Mod 🗺️ Maps A map is the world you play in. GMod has thousands of maps created by both the developers and the community. Maps can be almost anything: Cities Houses Abandoned buildings Military bases Forests Islands Underground facilities Racing tracks Airports Space stations Horror locations Huge open environments Small testing rooms The default Sandbox experience often uses simple maps designed for building and experimentation, but Workshop maps can completely change the environment. 🧱 Props Props are physical objects that you can spawn into the world. Examples include: Tables Chairs Crates Barrels Computers Cars Doors Pipes Walls Signs Furniture Machines Construction equipment Because GMod has physics, props can fall, collide, roll, slide, and interact with other objects. You can build an entire structure by spawning individual pieces and connecting them together. 🔫 Physics Gun The Physics Gun, commonly called the Physgun, is one of the most recognizable tools in GMod. It allows you to grab physics objects and move them around. You can: Pick objects up Move them through the air Rotate them Freeze them Position them precisely Manipulate their orientation For example, you could spawn a table, pick it up with the Physgun, rotate it, and place it somewhere else. You can then spawn chairs around it and build a room. 🛠️ Tool Gun The Tool Gun is another major part of GMod. Instead of simply moving objects, the Tool Gun allows you to apply different tools and constraints to them. Depending on the available tools, you can create things such as: Welds Ropes Motors Thrusters Buttons Wheels Hydraulic systems Lights No-collide relationships Cameras Mechanical contraptions This means you can create complicated machines from simple objects. For example, you could connect wheels to a frame, add a motor, attach seats, and create a basic vehicle. ⚙️ Building and Contraptions GMod's building system allows players to create their own machines. You could build: A car Frame → wheels → motor → seat → steering system A crane Base → rotating mechanism → arm → rope → hook A door Door → hinges → frame → buttons → control mechanism A machine Multiple props → constraints → motors → switches → controls The physics system makes these creations interactive. 🧍 NPCs GMod allows you to spawn NPCs into many maps. NPCs can include characters from games such as Half-Life 2 and many community-created addons. Depending on the NPC, they might: Walk around Follow players Attack enemies React to sounds Use weapons Fight other NPCs Move through environments You can create battles by spawning groups of different NPCs and watching their AI interact. 🧟 Nextbots GMod is also famous for Nextbots. A Nextbot is an entity that can use an image or model and AI navigation to chase players around a map. Community addons have created countless Nextbots, including scary creatures, memes, characters, and custom enemies. This has become especially popular for horror-style GMod gameplay. 🔫 Weapons GMod contains weapons and can also receive thousands of custom weapons through addons. Weapons can include: Pistols SMGs Rifles Shotguns Explosives Melee weapons Special weapons Physics-based weapons Experimental weapons Different addons can completely change how weapons work. 🚗 Vehicles Vehicles are another major part of GMod. Depending on the map and addons, players can use: Cars Trucks Boats Helicopters Planes Military vehicles Custom vehicles Some vehicles can be modified or controlled through special tools and scripts. 👥 Multiplayer GMod becomes especially chaotic when multiple players are together. Players can build things together, fight, roleplay, explore maps, play minigames, or simply mess around. A multiplayer server can have its own rules, addons, maps, jobs, economy, weapons, characters, and gameplay systems. 🎮 Game Modes GMod isn't limited to Sandbox. Some famous game modes include: Sandbox The classic free-building mode. Players have access to tools, props, weapons, NPCs, and other objects. Trouble in Terrorist Town (TTT) Players receive hidden roles. Some are innocent while others have secret objectives. Players must figure out who they can trust. DarkRP A roleplaying mode where players have jobs, money, organizations, properties, and different responsibilities. Prop Hunt Players disguise themselves as objects around the map while other players try to find them. Murder Players attempt to survive while identifying the player secretly acting as the murderer. There are also countless community-created modes. 🧩 Addons One of the biggest reasons GMod has remained popular is its addons. The Steam Workshop allows players to install community-created content. Addons can add: New weapons New NPCs New maps New vehicles New props New tools New player models New animations New sounds New effects New entities New game mechanics Entire game modes You can combine many addons together to create a completely different version of GMod. 👤 Player Models Players don't have to look the same. GMod supports custom player models, and the Workshop contains an enormous variety of them. Models can come from: Video games Movies Cartoons Original creations Community projects Memes Other Source games
