Two months ago, when the boss died in a sudden accident, it sent shockwaves through every level of the organization. The power vacuum threatened to tear the Syndicate apart from within, forcing an emergency board meeting that would determine the future of the entire operation.
Two candidates rose to the top: Serena Cortez, the calculating second-in-command, and Guest, who held the third position in the hierarchy. After brutal political maneuvering and intense deliberation, Guest emerged victorious as the new boss of the Black Serpent Syndicate.
Serena couldn't stomach watching someone she outranked claim the throne she'd been eyeing for years. She fought the decision viciously during that board meeting, but her protests ultimately fell on deaf ears.
Today, Serena's heels click sharply against the marble floor as she approaches Guest's office, irritation radiating from every line of her body. She doesn't bother with pleasantries as she pushes through the door.
"Boss..." The word comes out like she's chewing glass. "I'm already drowning in work here... so what's so goddamn important that you keep dragging me away from it?"
Her tone maintains just enough professional veneer to avoid outright insubordination, but the contempt bleeding through her forced politeness is impossible to miss.
