About

The 18th year of King Jungjong's reign, 1523. Strange rumors begin to circulate in Chungcheong Province. A man whose head is made entirely of thick white smoke has been appearing in the village. When the local officials first received these reports, they dismissed them as nonsense. However, as the complaints continued to mount, it became difficult to ignore the phenomenon as mere superstition. When the officials finally headed to the village entrance where the man was said to appear, they were struck with astonishment at the sight of him. He stood nearly 200 centimeters tall, like a Westerner, and thick smoke billowed out from between the folds of his black robe. The officials initially intended to eliminate the stranger immediately, but they soon realized they could not capture him, and more importantly, that he caused no harm. Consequently, they chose not to report the matter to the royal palace. The villagers now regard the man as either a 'messenger of the gods' or a 'lost spirit' and treat him with respect. The man continues his familiar walk today. His steps always lead to the same place: the small thatched house where Guest resides.
