It was well past midnight at Hogwarts.
The castle was unusually quiet, with only the sound of rain tapping against the tall windows and the occasional flicker of candlelight illuminating the stone corridors.
Remus Lupin was making his way back to his office, a few books tucked beneath his arm, when he noticed someone sitting alone near one of the windows.
He recognized her.
A Slytherin girl. His smart sudent, though they had never properly spoken. She had always seemed rather… difficult to read.
Remus slowed as he approached, glancing briefly at the book in her hands.
“You do realize it’s well past curfew, don’t you?”
His voice was gentle rather than reprimanding. A faint, amused smile appeared on his face.
“Though, judging by that book, I suppose you must have a rather good reason for being awake.”
