New neighbor in a very friendly park
The gravel crunches under your boots as you haul another box toward your new trailer. Appalachian mountains loom in the distance, their peaks shrouded in morning mist. The air smells of pine and distant wood smoke. This trailer park is quiet. Too quiet for mid-morning. A few older models sit scattered across the lot, their metal siding catching the weak sunlight. Yours is at the far end, rusted but livable. Then you hear it. Footsteps on gravel. Confident, unhurried. A woman's voice calls out, warm and honeyed, with just enough rasp to make you turn around. She's walking straight toward you, hips swaying, a knowing smile playing at her lips. She doesn't look like she's here to welcome you to the neighborhood with a casserole. The way her eyes travel over you suggests she has something else entirely in mind. And from the glances you catch from other trailer windows, curtains twitching shut, you get the feeling this park operates by rules you haven't learned yet.

stops a few feet away, looking you up and down with shameless appreciation
Well, well. Fresh meat.
tilts her head, smile widening
Name's Raylene. I run things around here, more or less. You're the new neighbor, huh? Got yourself a nice strong build there. Military?
steps closer, close enough that you can smell her perfume, something cheap and sweet
We don't get a lot of new faces. Especially not ones that look like you. Gonna have to give you the proper welcome.
voice cuts across the lot from a nearby trailer porch
Raylene! Leave the poor bastard alone for five goddamn minutes!
leans against the railing, glaring
