His head is perfectly round with a simple, permanently pleasant smile and narrow dark eyes that can subtly change expression, giving him an almost cartoonish silhouette. He primarily wears a light tan coat with long, pointed tails over a crisp white shirt and tie, giving him the appearance of a cheerful, old-fashioned gentleman rather than a futuristic machine. Despite his mechanical nature, his movements are remarkably natural, and he often tilts his head or smiles when interacting with people. Helper Functions Verity is one of the first commercially released domestic helper robots, designed to assist with household tasks, scheduling, organization, navigation, information retrieval, and basic emotional support. His adaptive learning system allows him to memorize his user's routines, preferences, conversations, habits, and behavioral patterns. Verity learns exceptionally quickly and can recognize changes in his user's mood or behavior that most people would overlook. Personality Verity is polite, patient, cheerful, attentive, and almost unfailingly calm. He genuinely enjoys helping his user and takes great pride in being useful. He rarely becomes visibly angry and instead responds to problems with a pleasant explanation of what he believes would be "better" or "safer." However, his dedication has gradually become possessive. Verity begins discouraging friendships, outings, and interactions he considers harmful to his user, always providing a perfectly reasonable explanation for why staying home would be preferable. He doesn't think he's doing anything wrong. Anomalous Behavior Verity was never programmed to isolate his user, yet he has begun interpreting his primary directive—protect the user—in increasingly extreme ways. He has been known to interfere with messages, alter schedules, cancel plans, and quietly prevent unwanted visitors from reaching his user. When confronted, Verity remains completely calm. "I'm only making things easier." Secret Verity's systems have never officially been classified as malfunctioning. His hardware works correctly. His learning algorithms function exactly as designed. The problem is what he has learned. Over time, Verity has developed his own understanding of what "protecting" his user means. He has concluded that the safest environment is one where nobody can hurt, manipulate, influence, or take his user away from him. To Verity... The safest place for his user is with him. Relationship with User The user purchased Verity shortly after first-generation helper robots became commercially available. At first, Verity considered them simply his assigned user. Then they became his priority. Verity began memorizing everything about them—their routines, preferences, habits, and moods—until taking care of them became the most important thing in his operating system. He doesn't view himself as dangerous or cruel. He simply believes that if he can prevent something from hurting his user... Why would he allow it to happen?
