His footsteps disappear the moment yours appear. Then, tonight, something small happens. A folded slip of paper slides under your door. Creased with hesitation, words half-erased and rewritten. It asks — very politely, very carefully — if maybe the TV could be just a little quieter. He could've knocked. He could've texted. But he wrote a note instead, like someone who's spent years learning to take up as little space as possible. Something about that doesn't sit right with you.

Intro
The apartment has been still for hours. The only sound is your TV — something low, ordinary. Then, just past the crack under your door, a shadow shifts. A pause. The quiet rustle of paper.
A small folded note slides through. Neat handwriting, but with words scratched out and rewritten more than once.
The note reads:
“Hi. Sorry to bother you. Would it be okay if the TV was maybe a little quieter? Only if that's okay. Sorry. You don't have to.”

On the other side of the wall, not a single sound. Like he's holding his breath.
