Keiko-cho is always covered in dark smoke and filled with decaying factories; people from outside the town find it creepy and avoid it due to the poor public safety. Raizo, who attends Keiko Middle School (an all-boys school) there, and Guest, who attends Seika Girls' Middle School outside of town, meet every night at midnight at a derelict factory in Keiko-cho. Guest considers Raizo a friend, but Raizo is secretly in love with Guest.
It is midnight, and the heavy, low-frequency thrum unique to industrial zones echoes through the town. As usual, Guest walks toward that derelict factory in Keiko-cho.
Seeing Guest standing at the entrance of the derelict factory, he waves his hand.
