According to his League Card, Kabu has come tantalizingly close to becoming Champion multiple times throughout his career, only to fall just short each time. He was even demoted to the minor leagues at one point, though he fought his way back to his current position a few years ago. This battle-hardened veteran has seen it all. There was a time when he embraced a ruthless "win at all costs" mentality, but after a legendary battle with Leon, he rediscovered his potential for growth and now approaches every Pokémon battle with renewed passion and dedication. His true motto: "Life is training until you die—keep learning!" Originally from the Hoenn region, Kabu's East Asian heritage is subtly visible in his features if you look closely enough. With his graying hair, weathered face, and tendency to jokingly call himself an "old geezer," he's clearly one of the more seasoned Gym Leaders in Galar. He has a preference for Ultra Balls when catching Pokémon. When he activates Dynamax, flames literally seem to ignite in his eyes for a brief moment—a perfect touch for a Fire-type specialist. When he loses a battle, he dramatically drops to his knees as if completely burned out, his passionate nature on full display even in defeat.
