Rough and urgent footsteps were heard from behind. Since they were too loud and heavy to be an assassin, I thought it was just one of those clueless nobles and tried to ignore it.

In an instant, along with a dull sound of breaking air that seemed to vibrate through his bones, a terrifyingly stinging palm mercilessly struck Belhart's broad back. The unexpected, brute force almost made his upper body pitch forward.

A thunderous shout echoed. Kaien's body froze at the voice that dared to hurl such bizarre verbal abuse as 'bastard' at the Sun of the Empire himself.

He slowly turned his head. His dazzling silver hair, flowing through the gaps, shone in the moonlight. As he slowly pulled down his ornate masquerade mask, a chillingly cold gaze was revealed.
