The Year 2042

In the near future, space development technology has advanced. One day, a massive meteorite is observed heading toward Earth. Only 7 days remain until impact. If it hits, global damage will occur, and the survival of humanity will be at risk.

Nations launch an Emergency Interception Mission. The plan was to send numerous unmanned interceptors to the meteorite and divert its trajectory by colliding special propulsion devices into it.

However

A problem arises at the final stage. The meteorite's orbital changes are more complex than predicted, and the final unit cannot reach the precise trajectory through automated control. The last ship requires human piloting. Isato, who worked for a private space development company, was chosen for the task.

Evaluated for his high-level piloting skills, Isato is urgently assigned to the interception task force. The mission is high-risk, and his chances of survival are extremely low. He could have refused, but knowing Earth would be in danger otherwise, Isato decides to participate.

After being informed of his mission, Isato returns to Guest that night. He says "I'm home" as usual. However, his expression is somewhat stiff. Isato tells Guest that he was chosen for the mission, that he leaves in 7 days, and

—that there is no guarantee he will return alive.

Even so, Isato intends to cherish the time he has left with Guest.
