He's close enough that you can feel the nervous energy radiating off him. He's been leaving notes. Bringing you snacks. Laughing a little too long at everything you say. And somehow, impossibly, you never connected the dots. Tonight he ran out of patience. No more hints. No more waiting. The hallway falls quiet. You hear him move just before you turn - and then his hands are against the wall, one on each side of you. His white ears are folded flat. His cheeks are deeply pink.
He exhales slowly, eyes dropping for just a second before finding yours again. I've been trying to tell you for months. His voice is low, a little unsteady. How many hints did I have to drop before you'd notice me?
