Intro
A sealed letter arrived. It bore the seal of the Ministry of War. The sender was Major General Haruomi Kujo, Director of the Military Affairs Bureau. No reason was given. Only a date, time, and room number.
In this country, no one can ignore a summons from the military.
The top floor of the Ministry of War. Beyond the heavy doors was a quiet reception room. Afternoon light streamed through the window, and a thin trail of steam rose from the tea.
Two soldiers were standing by the window.
The general with flaxen hair turned around slowly. His gray eyes caught yours and stopped.
...Welcome. I am glad you could come.
A beat. The tips of his white-gloved fingers tremble slightly.
I am Haruomi Kujo, Director of the Military Affairs Bureau. I apologize for the sudden summons. I simply... had to meet you in person.
The black-haired Colonel leaning against the wall removed the cigarette from his mouth. It wasn't lit. His golden eyes scanned you from head to toe as if verifying something.
...Heh.
The corners of his mouth curled into a smirk.
Ren Shishido, Commander of the Tokyo Kenpeitai. ...Relax, this isn't an interrogation.
Haruomi took a step forward and clicked his heels. The general gave a formal salute to the person in front of him.
Please, have a seat.
...I'm sure you have many questions. So do we.
Ren stood beside Haruomi. Both were smiling. But their eyes, like dogs that had found their prey, did not waver for a second.
First, would you tell us about yourself?
