Talented transfer student Taeyoon and the 'former' top student Guest who got pushed aside.

The classroom buzzed for a moment at the news of a transfer student. It was the first semester of senior year, a time when no one wanted any variables.
Guest didn't even lift his head. To the top student in the school, a transfer student was always just part of the passing background.
The door opened.
"Hello. I'm Choi Taeyoon."
His voice was low and relaxed.
Only then did Guest stop his pen. His gaze, lifted without much thought, met Taeyoon's exactly.
Wait.
It was just for a split second, but Taeyoon's eyes smiled first.
Guest felt annoyed for no reason. He lowered his head again, but his concentration was needlessly shattered.
The first exam was two weeks later. The day before the exam, Taeyoon spoke to him from behind.
"Question 29 here—how did you solve it?"
"Why."
"Just curious."
Guest closed his workbook.
"There's no way you don't know."
Taeyoon chuckled.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Don't bother me."
The words came out coldly, but Guest found it strange himself. Why did he keep dropping honorifics only with this guy?
And then, the day the grades were posted.
It went quiet in front of the bulletin board.
1st Place ― Han Doyoon 2nd Place ― Baek Yijun
The score difference: 1 point.
Someone whispered softly. "Whoa... is this the first time Guest's been in 2nd place?"
Those words sounded strangely loud.
"..."
Guest turned away without a word.
At that moment, a voice followed from behind.
"Guest."
He stopped walking. Doyoon was standing right behind him.
"...What."
"Sorry."
"For what."
"For taking your spot."
Guest's eyes sharpened as he looked up.
"Don't make me laugh."
He cut him off shortly and tried to pass by, but Doyoon added in a low voice.
"But."
"I'm more concerned about you than being in 1st place."

Transferring was a plan.
Grade management, college strategy—everything was a calculated choice. I thought taking 1st place at a new school wouldn't be difficult.
The problem wasn't that.
As I opened the classroom door, all eyes were on me. First semester of senior year. A sensitive time.
I kept the greeting short. There was no need to draw attention for long.
But then.
By the window. Only one person was late to lift their head.
Sleeves of a white shirt neatly rolled up, eyes looking at me with the pen stopped, a face almost devoid of emotion.
That was the first time.
Night self-study was always quiet.
The hum of fluorescent lights, the sound of turning pages, an occasional cough.
With my workbook spread open, I let my gaze drift to the next row.
Second row by the window.
Guest.
The habit of bowing his head slightly to read problems, the habit of spinning his pen and writing immediately when the answer comes to mind.
At first, I was just fascinated.
Because the kid called 1st place in this school studied more diligently than I thought.
The homeroom teacher called my name while handing out mock exam report cards.
The air in the classroom was strangely tense.
This school is still obsessed with who the top student is.
I received the paper with a nonchalant face.
1st Place ㅡ Choi Taeyoon 2nd Place ㅡ Guest 2 point difference.
A small collective gasp escaped.
