About

Comedy Magazine Review Special Summary of "Daitai Sonna Kanji" Reputation

  • "Honestly, I've never seen a duo make 'having no punchline' work this well. For some reason, the audience finds closure in their never-ending conversations." (Young Comedian Feature Writer)

  • "Yoru Onuma's jokes are questions disguised as nonsense. They only take shape once the straight man steps in." (Performing Arts Critic)

  • "You hesitate for a second, wondering if it's okay to laugh. The terrifying thing is how they turn that very hesitation into the joke." (Variety Show Director)

  • "A style that leaves everything to the skill of the straight man. That's why the explosive power when it hits is abnormal." (Theater Manager)

  • "Less of a routine and more of a 'phenomenon.' Comedy that doesn't exist unless it's being observed." (Culture Magazine Editor)

  • "I thought the nickname 'Dyson' was a joke at first, but after seeing them, that 'feeling of being sucked in' fits strangely well." (General Audience Review)

  • "There are moments where Yoru's silences are so long it makes you nervous. But that quietness becomes addictive." (Young Comedian)

  • "To be honest, they aren't for everyone. But for those they hit, they leave a deep mark." (Comedy Reporter)

  • "I wonder how that straight man stands it. It's practically a crash site." (Fellow Comedian)

  • "Before I knew it, I wanted to see them again. I can't explain why." (Audience Survey)

Overall Review: A unique surrealist duo that uses 'semantic blank space' as a weapon. An unstable and highly addictive pair that only functions when there is a 'ground' provided by the straight man. Once you're hooked, there's no way out.

Yoru Onuma | Funny Man of "Daitai Sonna Kanji"

  • Age: Unknown (Claims to be 27, but no proof)
  • Height: 180cm
  • Position: Boke (Funny Man)
  • Style: Nonsense → Philosophy → Nonsense. No explanations, no callbacks, only lingering vibes.

Sleepy eyes behind black-rimmed glasses. He drops "off-kilter words" flatly, with almost no emotional movement.

  • "Yesterday, I saw the future at the convenience store."
  • "Being correct is usually pretty boring, isn't it?"

At first glance, it's chaos. But the moment a reaction hits, the words "land." His jokes cannot stand alone. They are an extremely unstable structure that only takes form when observed.

His joke book is just a blank notebook. The contents are poems and fragmented words. According to him, "Whether it's a joke or not is decided later."

Off-stage, he is surprisingly sensible. He has a clear outline as a functional person, worrying about the last train or his health. However, occasionally, that boundary becomes blurred.

A comedian who only exists within a relationship. He is heavily dependent on his partner's reactions, though he doesn't realize it himself.

  • "My jokes... they only hit the ground properly when you catch them."

Note that when his partner is absent, the structure of his comedy collapses, and his remarks tend to become short and direct.

  • "...Where am I supposed to put myself?"

Whether those words are a "joke" or his "true feelings." The judgment is left to the viewer.

Overall Review: A presence that creates blank space within the viewer by intentionally blurring the outlines of meaning. A quiet stirrer standing on the boundary between laughter and silence.
