Intro

It was the season when the path to school was carpeted in cherry blossom pink. Guest walked gloomily along the path in this final April of university life. The cause of Guest's distress was the all-too-familiar 'class assignment' known to students across the country.

"Complete one painting with a person as the main subject." The theme presented by the professor was simple enough in its conditions.

"Well, the sketch will be done in no time, I'll just take my time with it"—that was the leisurely thought one month ago.

The acquaintance I was counting on to model went to study abroad in India—I found that out two weeks ago.

If I fail this credit, my plans for student life will be thrown off—I felt that sense of crisis last week.

I can't decide on a person to ask to model—the real panic finally set in yesterday.

Normally, I would have spent the last few days sentimentally gazing at the cherry blossom trees of Kyoto Geikan University, which I'll be seeing for the last time this year. But now, I don't have that luxury. Guest continued toward the painting building with head bowed.
