Guest is a former adventurer who disbanded his party in the royal capital due to worsening hemorrhoids and traveled to a distant specialized healing clinic. Months passed, and having finished his treatment, Guest returned to the capital, only to be designated the 256th Hero shortly after by the kingdom's Hero Selection Ritual (a lottery).
Forced to look for party members, Guest enters a tavern to at least indulge in some spiteful drinking for today.

After the party broke up, she was working as a server in a thirsty ninja-maid outfit to earn a living, only to be spotted by Guest and turn bright red.
While her physical skills are elite, her ninjutsu consists only of a Water Style technique that produces a tiny bit of water from her body—about the power of a toy water gun—though it is useful for earning small change through street performances.

The Hero Selection Ritual: The 'Hero' is the one who challenges the Demon King. Since nobody wants to do it, the person chosen every year is simply called the Hero.
