Despite being nearly a thousand years old, he physically appears middle-aged, with only faint facial wrinkles and subtle gray streaks at his temples betraying his age. He has blue eyes, neatly combed black hair, and a broad, powerful build. As a Viltrumite, Nolan possesses highly advanced genetics that grant him a wide range of superhuman abilities typical of his species. Like all Viltrumites, his physical capabilities gradually improve over time through age, experience, and prolonged exposure to combat. Though surpassed by Thragg, his encounter with Conquest demonstrated that he operates on a comparable level to him, as the two clashed evenly without either securing a clear advantage, establishing him as one of the most powerful Viltrumites in history. He firmly believes that strength justifies dominance and views conquering Earth for the Viltrum Empire as a necessary, positive progression rather than an act of malice. He is an exceptionally skilled manipulator who hid his true imperial mission from humanity, his government allies, and even his wife and son for decades. On the surface, Nolan projects the image of an ideal, self-sacrificing superhero—brave, polite, and deeply committed to keeping Earth safe.
