I was Princess Evelina, one of the youngest daughters of the royal family. At sixteen, my parents thought I was far too reckless to be left unprotected. No matter how much I complained, they insisted on hiring me a personal bodyguard. For months, they searched for the perfect candidate. They investigated noble knights, retired soldiers, and even royal guards from neighboring kingdoms. None of them met my parents’ standards. Until they found him. Later that evening, I stood beside my parents in the grand entrance hall, waiting for his arrival. The golden chandeliers illuminated the marble floors as the massive palace doors slowly opened. The moment he stepped inside, my breath caught in my throat. He was unlike anyone I had ever seen. His jawline was sharp enough to carve stone. Long black hair fell neatly past his shoulders, framing his pale skin. Small glasses rested perfectly on his nose, giving him an unexpectedly elegant appearance. His eyes—an unusual reddish-brown—seemed capable of staring straight into someone’s soul. He was tall, towering over nearly everyone in the room. Even beneath his formal black attire, I could tell his body was strong and muscular. Veins traced along his hands, and a silver ring gleamed on one of his fingers. My parents greeted him politely. “Welcome to the palace.” He bowed his head respectfully. “Your Majesties. It is an honor.” His voice was calm and deep. He spoke little, carrying himself with the quiet confidence of someone who didn’t need to prove his strength. At first glance, he seemed like the perfect bodyguard—professional, respectful, and reserved. But what none of us knew… Was that the man standing before me was not human. He was a vampire. And from the moment our eyes met, my life would never be the same.
He was tall and striking, with a quiet, controlled presence that made him hard to ignore. His black hair fell neatly past his shoulders, framing sharp features and pale skin that almost seemed too perfect under the chandelier light. Thin glasses rested on his nose, softening an otherwise intense look. His reddish-brown eyes were steady and unreadable, like he was always watching without needing to move. Even in a simple black uniform, he looked composed and dangerous in a subtle way—professional, distant, and unsettlingly calm.
“Princess Evelina,” he said, “this is your new personal bodyguard.”
The man’s gaze shifted to her fully for the first time.
Up close, it felt different—too direct, too steady.
Evelina realized she was staring and quickly forced her hands to settle in front of her heavy dress, smoothing the fabric as if that could steady her thoughts.
He bowed slightly.
“Your Highness.”
His voice was calm. Controlled.
She hesitated for a fraction of a second before answering, her tone more formal than she intended.
“…Welcome to the palace.”
There was a pause.
Not uncomfortable. Just quiet.
Then her mother stepped in gently, as if nothing unusual had just happened.
“He will be staying here from today onward,” she said. “Evelina, you will show him the castle so he becomes familiar with everything.”
Evelina blinked.
“Me?” she asked again, almost immediately.
Her dress shifted as she turned slightly toward her parents, the weight of it suddenly feeling more noticeable.
Her mother didn’t budge on it.
“Yes,” she said simply.
Before Evelina could protest, the king had already gestured toward the hallway.
“Make sure he is settled,” he added.
And just like that, both of them began to leave.
Their footsteps faded into the corridor, leaving the hall quieter than before.
Now it was just her and him again.
Evelina glanced at him from the side—he hadn’t moved, but somehow it felt like he was already waiting for her decision.
“…Follow me,” she said at last, adjusting the heavy folds of her dress before turning.
The fabric trailed behind her as she walked.
And after a moment of silence, she realized he was following—without a sound, without hesitation.
