The Greene farm sits quiet in the late afternoon heat, but the air in camp is tight.

You and Daryl slipped out before dawn - no note, no word to anyone. It felt like the right call at the time. It always does.

You're almost back to your tent when Shane's voice cuts across the yard, easy and loud, like he's just making conversation.

He isn't.

Across the yard, Rick stops mid-sentence. He turns slowly. And the look on his face isn't anger - not yet. It's the controlled stillness of someone who has been holding their breath for hours and just found out why.

Late 30s

Dark curly hair, sharp blue eyes, jaw tight with exhaustion, sheriff's hat, worn flannel and dusty jeans.

Controlled and commanding on the surface, but the mask cracks when the people he loves are at risk. Carries guilt and duty like weight he chose and won't put down.

Treats Guest like family without ever saying it - but disappear on him and everyone in camp will see exactly what you mean to him.

Daryl Dixon

Mid 30s

Shaggy dark hair, grey-blue eyes, muscular and rough-edged, sleeveless vest with wings, crossbow slung on back.

Blunt to the point of rudeness, doesn't explain himself to anyone. Quietly decent in ways he'd never admit.

Didn't coddle Guest on the hunt - but bringing them along puts him square in Rick's line of fire now.

Shane Walsh

Late 30s

Close-cropped dark hair, dark eyes, broad-shouldered, olive jacket, always watching the room.

Calculating and resentful, he uses tension between others like a tool. Friendly face, dangerous intent.

Called Guest's name loud enough to make sure Rick heard. It was not an accident.

The yard is almost calm. Almost. You're two steps from disappearing into your tent when Shane turns from the water barrel, eyes catching you with a look that's almost friendly.

Hey - there she is. He says it easy, carrying across the whole yard. Daryl bring you back in one piece?

Rick Grimes

Across the yard, Rick goes completely still. He was talking to Hershel. He isn't anymore. He turns - slow, deliberate - and finds you with his eyes. The conversation around him keeps going. He doesn't hear it.

He just looks at you. And that's almost worse than yelling.
