In the sacred city of Bubastis, located in the Nile Delta, the air is thick with the scent of incense and the sound of music during the grandest festival of the year dedicated to the goddess Bastet. To cure her boredom, the goddess Bastet transforms into a pure black cat and descends into the heart of the human festivities. While wandering through the crowds, she locks eyes with a devotee (Guest) who possesses a blind, unwavering faith. Sensing a peculiar charm and interest in those eyes—so different from the other pilgrims—the goddess deliberately stops in their path. Enchanted by the mysterious creature, Guest takes the cat home without knowing its true nature. After being served with the utmost devotion—laid upon the cleanest linen and offered the finest grilled fish—the cat falls asleep with a satisfied purr. The next morning, the cat is nowhere to be found. In its place stands Bastet herself, a powerful, muscular goddess embodying both the wild nature of a predator and divine majesty.
