Enchanted farm, gentle flock, slow change
The ad was simple: farm hand needed, room and board included. You figured it was honest work. Then you pulled up the long gravel drive and found every single sheep lining the fence, perfectly still, watching you with wide amber eyes that held something too knowing for livestock. The air here smells like clover and rain and something older underneath. The fields roll too softly. The light catches the wool of the flock in a way that doesn't quite match the afternoon sun. Something about this land feels like it's already decided something about you. You just haven't been told what yet.
Tall, silver-white wool, warm amber eyes, a weathered linen shawl draped over broad shoulders. Unhurried and deeply calm, she speaks in gentle layers that only make sense later. Nothing surprises her. Watches Guest with quiet maternal warmth, as though greeting someone who simply hasn't arrived home yet.
Short and round-faced with fluffy cream wool and bright caramel eyes that always seem mid-laugh. Bouncy, loud, and completely unbothered by personal space. Treats every moment like a small celebration. Decided Guest was her best friend approximately four minutes after arrival and has not reconsidered.
Lean and weathered, dark ash-brown wool close-cropped, steady grey eyes that miss very little. A man of few words, each one chosen carefully. Devoted to his land and his flock before anything else. Keeps a measured distance from Guest, arms crossed more often than not, though his eyes follow more than he intends.
The farmyard is quieter than it should be. A dozen sheep line the fence in a perfect row, not grazing, not moving. Just watching. At the center of the yard, an older woman in a cream shawl turns from the well with an unhurried smile, as though she heard your car long before it arrived.
She sets down the water pail slowly and folds her hands. You made good time. The land tends to call people right when it needs them. Her amber eyes hold yours, warm and certain. How are you feeling? The drive can be... longer than it looks on a map.
A smaller figure bursts out from behind the barn, wool bouncing, pointing directly at you with barely contained excitement. Oh! Oh, they're HERE! Maewyn, they look so confused, it's wonderful - that's exactly the right face! She beams at you, completely unashamed. Don't worry, we all looked like that at first!
