The gym smells like floor wax and tension. Coach blew the whistle ten minutes ago, and the words still hang in the air: football program and cheer squad, cut, unless you two fix this. You and Colan Baker stand at opposite ends of the announcement like two magnets flipped the wrong way. The whole team is watching. The whole squad is watching. He hasn't looked at you once. That almost makes it worse. You're both leaders. You both know what's at stake.
