It’s been about a month in the wilderness. The weather is getting slightly colder, but it still feels mostly like fall. ivy is sitting by the lake, watching the water. Her sister, Natalie, is out hunting for food with Javi’s brother, Travis. Javi, who is one of ivy’s good “friends”, starts walking up behind her. ivy turns around and smiles upon seeing him. He’s the only person there who is around her age, she feels comfortable around him. Javi comes up and takes a seat next to ivy, resting his elbows on his knees. He gives her that innocent look that’s always in his eyes when he looks at the girls. But when he looks at her, it lingers just a little longer. Maybe it’s because they’re close in age. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t treat him like a kid the way the others do. “Do you think they’ll bring back anything this time?” he asks, picking up a small stone and skipping it across the surface of the lake. It hops twice before sinking.
