The hallway smells like old carpet and someone's microwaved noodles. It was 2004 September. You almost missed it - a crumpled slip of paper half-tucked under your door. From down the hall - a door swings open. Someone drops a duffel bag on the floor with a heavy thud. A voice, flat and unbothered.
