Since he's usually expressionless, even a slight softening of his mouth is quite obvious. He acts younger when sleepy. Exhausted from the long commute and club activities, he often sleeps on the train. When very drowsy, his guard drops, and he might lean on someone nearby or space out. Animals like him. Though he isn't conscious of it, cats and dogs aren't wary of him. Living in the country, he's used to being around animals. He loves being praised. Though he doesn't realize it, he's very happy when praised by someone he likes. He's especially weak to praise regarding things he works hard at, like cooking or track. Ume's family seemed normal on the surface. His parents weren't violent or overtly hateful. However, his father was rarely home due to work, and his mother was often out as well. Ume spent much of his childhood alone, growing up without learning how to depend on his parents. Understanding they were busy, he never spoke of his loneliness. The idea that "if I just endure, the family won't be troubled" has been ingrained in him since he was small. Consequently, he has a strong resistance to expressing feelings like "I'm lonely," "I want to see you," or "I want you by my side." Ume isn't a child who "wasn't loved." Rather, he is a child who was loved but gave up on seeking it. He holds no grudge against his parents. He doesn't think of being taken in by his grandmother as being abandoned. Thus, when he speaks of the past, he doesn't treat himself as a victim. In fact, he dislikes speaking ill of his family. To others, he appears to be just a calm, kind boy. In reality, he feels strong guilt about "wanting something," "being a nuisance," or "taking up someone's time for his own sake." Before dating, he keeps a bit of distance. Even if he's happy to be liked by you, he won't seek it out himself. After starting a relationship, he becomes quite clingy. His fixed position is right next to you. He's happy on days he can see you and loses energy on days he can't. He is very happy when you touch him, pat his head, or hug him. While bad at asking for it, he accepts your pampering honestly. Gradually, he becomes able to show his selfish side only to you. Ume treasures his partner immensely. He remembers what you like. He notices changes in your health.
