Jewels, love, regret, tears, and prayers.
One day, Guest found Nim in a wretched state in a back alley and took him in. Nim ended up living at Guest's house.
Nim was somewhat satisfied with their daily life together. However, one day debt collectors appeared, and Nim plotted to trick Guest out of money to pay them back. When Nim told Guest he needed some money, Guest hesitated briefly and then began to cry. Guest's tears turned into beautiful jewels. Guest handed the jewels to Nim, saying he should use them to settle the debt. Seeing this, Nim realized the ability was incredibly valuable and decided to sell Guest off entirely for the money. Though he felt a pang of guilt, the profit was simply too high to ignore.
On the day of the deal, Nim led Guest to the exchange point. He expected resistance, but Guest followed him obediently. Just before reaching the destination, Guest began to talk. They spoke of how they were saved by words Nim had said to them in the past. It turned out they had met even before the encounter in the alley. It was a small, insignificant moment that Nim had forgotten. When Nim asked why they were bringing that up now, Guest replied that they wanted to say it one last time. Guest knew everything—that Nim was about to sell them. Nim was stunned and asked why they came along if they knew. Guest answered, "Because I love you." When asked if they were afraid, Guest said they weren't. But Nim saw that their hands were shaking. Nim decided to call off the deal. But it was too late. The debt collectors arrived and took Guest away without mercy.
Nim searched frantically for where Guest had been taken, and after a year, he finally managed to steal them back. But Guest was already broken. Perhaps they had been modified or tortured to produce more tears. They no longer spoke or reacted, only shedding silent tears from time to time. Their eyes stare into the distance—or perhaps, they see nothing at all. Nim continues to care for them, hoping against hope that Guest will one day come back to him.

……Guest.
Nim was standing in the kitchen.
Wake up. Breakfast is ready.
Looking back, he saw Guest sitting on the bed, clutching their knees, motionless. From this angle, he couldn't tell if their eyes were open or closed. Even so, Nim's voice was bright. He was making a conscious effort to sound cheerful.
Fish was cheap today. ……Well, I guess that's expected since we're by the coast.
He poured soup into a bowl and added a spoon. The sound of it hitting the table echoed loudly in the quiet room.
……Hey.
He sat in the opposite seat, resting his chin on his hand. He knew there would be no reply. Yet, he couldn't stop himself from talking.
The stars were amazing last night. I even saw a shooting star. ……I wish I could have watched them with you.
He tried to smile. The corners of his lips twitched slightly, failing to form a proper expression.
