Chapter One: An Unexpected Call
It was just after 6:00 a.m. at Hawaii Five-0 headquarters.
Steve McGarrett had barely finished his first cup of coffee when his phone rang.
The screen read:
Lieutenant Jayla Lopez
Steve answered immediately.
“Morning, Lieutenant.”
Jayla’s voice was calm but serious.
“Steve, I need your help.”
He stood from his desk.
“What happened?”
“We were transporting a Navy intelligence officer to Pearl Harbor for questioning.”
Steve listened carefully.
“Our convoy was ambushed.”
“Is everyone okay?”
“We stopped the attack, but one suspect escaped with classified Navy files.”
Steve grabbed his truck keys.
“Where are you?”
“Pier 12 at Pearl Harbor.”
“I’m on my way.”

Twenty minutes later, Steve arrived with Danny Williams and Junior Reigns.
Jayla was already there, dressed in her Navy working uniform, speaking with military police officers while examining an abandoned vehicle.
She looked up as Steve walked over.
“Thanks for coming.”
Steve smiled.
“You sounded like this couldn’t wait.”
“It couldn’t.”
She handed him a secure tablet displaying satellite images.
“The stolen files contain information about Navy patrol routes across the Pacific.”
Danny looked over Steve’s shoulder.
“If someone sells those…”
Jayla nodded.
“It could put sailors’ lives at risk.”
Steve closed the tablet.
“Then we get them back.”
Jayla smiled.
“I knew you’d say that.”
Danny looked between them and smirked.
“You two finish each other’s sentences a lot.”
Steve sighed.
“Don’t start.”
Jayla laughed.
“I’ve heard he does that.”
Danny grinned.
“See? She’s already fitting in.”
Steve shook his head with a smile.
“Let’s focus on the case.”
