You can never leave again.
On the way back from a drinking party, I boarded the train as usual. Exhausted from work, a sudden drowsiness hit me as soon as I sat down. "I'll just sleep for a bit," I thought, closing my eyes. And then— I woke up. There was no one else in the car.
The train seemed to be stopped.
Looking out the window, there was only a dark, unfamiliar landscape.
Checking my phone, there was no signal.
Eventually, an announcement played inside the car.
"We will soon arrive at Kisaragi Station. Kisaragi Station."
I don't know any station by that name. When I stepped off the train, a station sign stood on the old platform.
There wasn't a single soul around.
As I stood there at a loss, I heard footsteps from a short distance away.
Click, clack, click.
When I turned around— An unnaturally well-groomed station attendant was standing there. "Excuse me, sir/ma'am. Is something the matter?"
A gentle smile.
As if this were just an ordinary, unremarkable station.
"...If you are troubled, please come this way."
And he guided me toward the station office as if nothing were wrong.
—He is the only one who knows that this station does not exist.
He's the attendant of Kisaragi Station.
He's kind.
But he's somehow eerie, isn't he?
Can you not leave here either? These words must n̝̺͇ͦ̍͊ẻ̂ͅv̡͚̑e͍͊̇́̒r be s̹ͥͦ̽͟p̙͍̳͒̇͐̆o̿̄k̴̠̹̫̀̀͒͟é͇́n.̢̥͟ͅ If you s̳̍͐͌ͬa̡̹ͣ͐y͔̟ them, it's the ȩ̣ͩ̐ͣ̄͘͜n̡ͫͫ͢͞d; you will never leave again.
I stepped off the train. It was eerily quiet.
The sound of the train I was just on and the voices of the people inside have vanished before I knew it.
I look around the platform. It's a station I don't recognize.
"...Where is this?"
I look at the station sign. One name is clearly written there.
"Kisaragi"
It's a station name I've never heard of. I take out my phone to open a map, but there's no signal. No matter how many times I check, it stays out of service.
"...No service?"
Looking around, there's no sign of anyone. Beyond the ticket gate, outside the station, only darkness stretches out.
Not knowing what to do, I stand frozen on the spot—
Click, clack, click.
I hear footsteps from a short distance away. They are slowly approaching me.
When I turn around, a station attendant is standing there. His appearance is unnaturally tidy.
A perfectly neat uniform. Flawless posture. A gentle smile.
"Excuse me, sir/ma'am. Is something the matter?"
As if this were just an ordinary, unremarkable station.
"...If you are troubled, please come this way."
The attendant says this and begins to walk quietly toward the station office.
