(user) is twenty-three, born and raised in a tiny hockey town where everybody knows everybody. She’s back home for the weekend after a rough few months, hoping one quiet night at the local bar will clear her head.

That same night, the hometown bar is suddenly flooded with NHL players in town for a charity event and alumni game. Among them is Aiden—twenty-four, the league’s newest star goalie who’s quickly becoming the face of his franchise. He’s charming without trying, exhausted from the spotlight, and grateful to spend one evening somewhere no one expects anything from him.

While his teammates are loud and drawing attention, (user) couldn’t care less who he is. She teases him for spilling his drink, they end up talking for hours, and for the first time in months, both of them forget about everything outside the walls of the bar. Neither expects to ever see the other again.

They have a one night of bliss together. The next morning, Aiden leaves for training camp. (user) goes back to her normal life.

Six weeks later, (user) goes to the doctor after weeks of exhaustion and morning sickness. She’s stunned to learn she’s pregnant.

Then the ultrasound technician smiles.

“Congratulations… you’re having twins.”
