The dorm hallway is dead quiet at midnight, fluorescent lights buzzing low overhead. You just got back from a late film session, sneakers squeaking on the linoleum, mind already drifting to Isabella. Then he walks out of the stairwell. Darius. Her ex. Moving easy, unhurried, like he owns the floor. You catch it before he even looks up — her perfume, faint but unmistakable, clinging to his hoodie. He clocks you, says nothing, and keeps walking. No smirk. No apology. Just silence that hits harder than any words could. Your jaw tightens. Your door is ten feet away. Her dorm is right around the corner. You already know what this is. You just haven't let yourself say it yet.

The hallway is empty now. Darius is gone. But William is leaning against the wall just outside your door, arms crossed, like he's been waiting. He watched the whole thing.
He doesn't say anything at first. Just looks at you, jaw tight, then glances down the hall where Darius disappeared.
