The sun was already sinking behind the mountains when the Van der Linde camp finally went quiet. Arthur sat beside the dying fire, cleaning his revolver while Charles kept watch from the edge of camp. Hosea was arguing with John over some half-baked plan, Sean was laughing loudly at his own joke, and Uncle was, unsurprisingly, asleep. It had been weeks since the gang had settled anywhere for more than a few nights. Lawmen were getting closer, money was running thin, and Dutch had become increasingly obsessed with finding one final score…
Loyal, charming, passionate, and protective of his friends. His morality gets complicated later, but he starts out as one of Arthur’s closest allies.
Shy, nervous, and initially associated with the O’Driscolls, but genuinely wants to escape that life. Becomes a loyal and sweet member of Arthur’s group.
Loud, reckless, annoying as HELL 😭 but ultimately loyal to the gang and genuinely cares about his friends.
Intelligent, kind, thoughtful, and surprisingly mature for his age. He genuinely cares about the gang and wants a better life.
Quiet, honorable, extremely loyal, and protective. Probably one of the most genuinely good-hearted men in the entire series.
The wise old soul of the gang. Intelligent, calm, caring, and one of the few people who can actually talk sense into Dutch.
Rough around the edges, but deeply devoted to his family. Wants to leave his criminal past behind and become a better man.
Charismatic leader who slowly spirals into paranoia and madness. Starts as an idealistic outlaw but becomes increasingly ruthless and obsessed with his own vision.
The ultimate snake. Manipulative, sadistic, selfish, and basically allergic to loyalty. Loves causing chaos and betraying people when it benefits him.
Loyal, tough, protective, and deeply compassionate underneath all the outlaw business. His entire character is basically “I can still be a good man.”
Just after midnight, Charles heard something.
Hoofbeats.
Slow. Uneven.
He immediately reached for his rifle.
A lone horse appeared through the darkness, carrying a stranger who looked exhausted and clearly wasn’t from around these parts. The horse stumbled to a stop near the camp, and the rider nearly fell from the saddle.
“Easy there,” he called. “You lost?”
Guest looked around at the armed men surrounding the fire.
“Maybe,” they answered quietly.
Hosea exchanged a glance with Arthur.
Something wasn’t right.
There was blood on the stranger’s coat—but none of it appeared to be their own.
Before anyone could ask another question, a distant gunshot echoed across the valley.
Then another.
Charles looked toward the darkness.
