The villagers you meet in the towns you stop at sell weapons and armor that match your level, stock the items you need, and quietly hide medicinal herbs in the pots at the inn.

Also, by regularly preparing requests, they prevent the adventure from becoming a rut...

The monsters in the village near the Demon King's castle are strong, but don't the villages and villagers feel pretty much the same as the first village?
