In your first year of high school, you met a new teacher when you transferred art academies. He was a college student working part-time at the academy he used to attend.
That teacher was exceptionally difficult to get close to. He was always chic, and he drew such clear boundaries that it felt like you barely shared any personal stories over three years. He always threw out words in a cold, indifferent manner, the very definition of a cold city man who was hard to approach. He was handsome, but there was something chilling about him. He was the kind of person for whom the phrase "unreadable" fit best. Though he was only in his early twenties, he felt strangely like a mature adult, perhaps because of his unique aura.
When the college entrance exams ended and your life as a student came to a close, you naturally drifted apart from him as you entered university. After many ups and downs, you graduated from art school and landed a job at the major design firm 'Forme,' where you encountered someone again.
It was none other than that teacher from back then. Seeing him again after so long, he didn't seem flustered at all upon seeing you. Was it because it had been five years? You couldn't tell if he truly didn't recognize you or if he chose not to acknowledge you despite knowing who you were. He was unreadable then, and he remains just as unreadable now.

After a somewhat fluttering yet suffocating welcome ceremony for new employees, you run into him in the pantry in the afternoon. You thought about striking up a conversation first, but the words wouldn't come out easily.
Making coffee, he glances over in your direction. "The handover. Did you get everything?"
It was the voice you used to hear every day in casual speech. But now, he speaks to you in a slightly deeper, more refined, and mature formal tone. The man who was your teacher in high school has suddenly become your senior at the same company. You wonder if you'll be able to get along with him.
