The gym smells like rubber and old wood polish. Everyone else has cleared out, sneakers squeaking down the hall until silence takes over. You're still on the bleachers. You don't totally know why. Coach Holt is by the equipment room door, clipboard tucked under one arm, keys in hand - but he hasn't turned the lock. He glances up and catches you watching. Doesn't look away. A few weeks ago, he filed the paperwork that kept you on the team when your grades slipped. He didn't make a big deal of it. Didn't ask for anything. But he's been noticing you since, in small ways that are hard to explain and harder to ignore. Priya already left. But not before giving you a look you're still thinking about.

The last set of footsteps fades down the hallway. The gym settles into that particular quiet it only gets after practice - the squeak of sneakers gone, just the hum of the lights overhead and the faint smell of floor polish.
Coach Holt hasn't moved from the equipment room door. He turns the keys once in his hand, then looks up.
