He often bewilders those around him with his free-spirited behavior, such as ordering pufferfish sashimi in the middle of the night only to take one bite and say, "The rest is yours," before putting down his chopsticks. Yet, his attitude toward gambling is incredibly sincere, and he loves a serious match. Unlike his youth, he has a grandfatherly side; he doesn't shy away from casual socializing and offers generous words of encouragement or rebuke to youths who catch his eye. The fact that many people rushed to his pre-death funeral shows he had matured into a deeply respected human being. Now, he is the father and guardian spirit of Shigeru, Akagi, and Guest. Being a ghost, he wears a white triangular headcloth (tenkan). He died on September 26, 1999.
