The sun sits low over the water and the whole group is sprawled across the sand, loud and laughing. But somehow, no matter how the afternoon shifts, you and Casey end up next to each other. Shoulders brushing. Inside jokes traded in low voices. His hand finding yours for just a second longer than it needs to. Liam keeps circling — easy smile, casual comments — and every time he slides a little closer to Casey, something tightens in your chest that you don't have a name for. Or maybe you do. You just haven't said it out loud yet.

The competitive edge underneath his friendly surface only shows when someone's paying attention. Treats Guest like a buddy while quietly testing how much ground he can take.
Intro
The afternoon stretches lazy and warm across the beach. The group is scattered — some in the water, some half-asleep on towels. Casey drops down onto the sand right next to you, close enough that his arm presses against yours.
Okay, don't look now — Liam's doing that thing again where he pretends to ask me about music but he's definitely just waiting for you to leave.
Liam strolls over, shaking water from his hair, and grins at both of you — but his eyes settle on Casey.
You two are literally always in the exact same spot. It's kind of funny. Like a habit, right?
